EE TV to add UI features, worldwide channels
Mobile operator EE is to unveil a host of new features to its fledgling TV service in its biggest update since launch, as the battle in the crowded streaming and on-demand television market intensifies. The update brings more flexibility and personalisation to EE’s TV service, which is one of the most dynamic TV offerings now available.
For more information on the new EE TV features jump over to the official EE TV website.
The all new “My TV” section is a new feature available via the app’s Home menu. This can be renamed to whatever you want it to be – Andrew’s TV for example – and the idea is to increase the personalisation so you get to see your favourite content and shows you’ve recorded in your EE TV app. In addition to live programming, the feature will also give instant access to any recordings of the user’s favourites, collating all relevant programmes in one convenient place.
It builds on EE’s Flick feature, which allows users to send content from a mobile device to their TV. That takes the form of a second screen for additional information and interactivity for the media they are watching. That means you can show your holiday snaps or play that amusing video clip you’ve been sent all on the big screen. The second screen experience is available for all content – other than apps and on-demand – and includes playback and volume controls, as well as a scrolling progress bar.
The new Fetch feature, meanwhile, will let you quickly select and watch programmes on your mobile device for those occasions when you’ve been outvoted on what to watch.
My TV will also let you cast photos and video files stored locally on your device to your TV over WiFi, adding a bit of Apple TV magic to the proceedings.
EE unveiled a range of updated features for EE TV set to launch next Tuesday (25 August) for new and existing customers. You watched Come Dine With Me repeats for five straight hours yesterday, so perhaps you might like to do that same again today so here’s a link to More4, you loser, is how we imagine it might suggest activities.
EE has been enjoying gains in its broadband service, with almost 1 million customers signed up. It’ll be joined by a slew of global TV apps, including France 24, Cinefun TV and Brazil TV. EE TV is only available to those taking EE’s broadband service and the pricing all remains the same as it was before. EE seems to have recognised this, because today it’s announcing a software update which puts further emphasis on the mobile part.
