Eight people dead as rain lashes parts of Karachi city
Electricity could not be restored even after the passage of more than eight hours.
Officials have poisoned hundreds of dogs in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi in the latest effort to curb a population of strays that attack thousands of people each year in the teeming mega-city of some 20 million.
The rains left eight people dead in the metropolis with majority electrocuted as rain water inundated a number of low-lying localities.
Different roads have at least two and half feet high stagnant water there troubling commuters.

The areas were still without power including Garden, Clifton, Saddar, pockets of DHA, Lyari, Gizri, North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Baldia Town, Orangi Town, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, sources said.
A KE spokesperson said around 125 tripped feeders were brought back on line while KE teams were busy restoring the rest.
The rainfall also exposed the performance of K-Electric as many parts of the city plunged into darkness and many localities had to face prolonged power outages.
Several areas of the city were still deprived of power supply.
Area, Baloch Colony and Model Colony remained the most affected areas.
Meantime, various important thoroughfares witnessed massive gridlock as traffic signals ceased function amidst rains.
Twelve of the victims died after they received fatal electric shocks, while three other persons died in wall collapses, Edhi Foundation and Chhipa officials said.
