Elderly couple forced to live in separate care homes are reunited
Wolfram Gottschalk, 83, and Anita Gottschalk, 81, have been together for 62 years.
Now the young woman has posted a video of her “Omi” and “Opi” being reunited as Wolfram Gottschalk was finally moved into the same facility as his wife Anita after eight months apart.
“The reunion saw tears of joy for all involved”, the statement said.
She shared the heartwarming moment on Facebook, showing the couple becoming overcome with emotion as they see each other and then share a kiss and a hug.
For the past eight months they have been living apart and a picture their granddaughter Ashley posted online of the couple crying during a reunion earlier this summer made worldwide headlines.
But their family says that although they got a happy ending, the story isn’t over for other B.C. couples waiting to be together. The family would take her on a 30-minute drive every other day to visit, but said the distance was still taking a toll on both of them.
Wolf is in the early stages of dementia and has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
This was the touching scene when Wolfram and Anita Gottschalk, the elderly Canadian couple whose tearful goodbye photo pulled heart strings worldwide, were reunited at the same health care facility in Surrey, British Columbia. If either one of them were to pass away while they’re separated, it would be devastating for them and the family’.
Anita can be heard telling her husband: ‘Look at me, look at me.
The viral story went far beyond Canada’s borders, leading to news coverage across the US and even in India.
