Elderly man ‘calmly’ smokes pipe while ‘sinking’ in Loxley lake
Driving into a river would cause most people to scream, shout and panic, but then not everyone is like this particular man.
The man in his 80s had driven to a farm in Loxley on Tuesday afternoon (August 11) for a spot of fishing and somehow managed to finish up in the middle of the pond in his auto. He had accidentally driven into a lake.
With his auto slowly sinking into a farmer’s pond in the English countryside, a man in his eighties calmly puffed away on his pipe, waiting for firefighters to rescue him from the swiftly-rising water.
The farmer was standing next to the auto in the lake in waders.
Firefighters fished the man out his auto and carried him back onto land, where he was assessed by ambulance personnel to ensure he was not hurt.
“The fishermen said they heard an almighty splash but he was just sitting there and carried on smoking his pipe while the auto sank”.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an advanced community paramedic, a paramedic area support officer and an ambulance crew to the scene.
His wet clothing was removed and paramedics gave him a ride home in the ambulance. It is unclear whether the man will be fishing anytime soon.
