Eli Manning’s hilarious reaction to brother Peyton winning Super Bowl 50
Peyton got to go out on a high and earn back some Manning family bragging rights, while the Panthers showed off their immaturity despite having such success this season.
In his postgame press conference, Carolina Quarterback and team leader Cam Newton appeared visibly frustrated and severely disappointed. He didn’t cover himself in glory in the post-game interview room, either, sulking through questions and then walking off with “I’m outta here”.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound quarterback who scored 45 touchdowns during the regular season – and five more in the playoffs – failed to produce a TD running or throwing for the first time this season and the Panthers lost in Super Bowl 50.
One look at the numbers on offense and it’s hard to believe that Denver won the Super Bowl.
“I’m just glad I was on the same team as our defense and didn’t have to play against them”, Manning said.
“I would have thought because it was Peyton’s last time [he would have picked the Denver Broncos]”, co-host Gayle King said, referencing Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Fresh off being earning his first MVP award on Saturday night, the Panthers fifth-year quarterback was stymied by an aggressive Denver Broncos defense in his first Super Bowl appearance on Sunday. The offense has stepped their game up all year long, and we just didn’t do that today.
Newton obviously was reeling from the loss after leading Carolina to a 17-1 record entering the game.
But Denver won largely because it forced four turnovers to Carolina’s two, and it never let Newton and the Panthers get into any sort of rhythm.
“We had our opportunities”, Newton said.
Newton, the league MVP, was sacked seven times, felt the pressure all day, was held to just 18 completions in 41 attempts for 265 yards but also with one pick and no TDs and a rating of just 55.4. “It’s been an emotional week and it’s an emotional night”. It’s going to be a peaceful thing, I’m not going to worry about that. “Ever”, Denver tight end Owen Daniels said. “We had two weeks to prepare and it just felt really good that our preparation, you could see that on a lot of those trick plays and everything that they did, they really helped out that week”. Yet the bland play-calling served a objective, as Denver tried to milk the clock and play a field position game, which catered to the team’s strengths on defense. Eventually his stat sheet came to life and he squeaked out 720 rushing yards and 144 combined in the Broncos’ three postseason games, with more than two-thirds of those coming Sunday. There wasn’t nothing special that they did. But his loss reminds us that he is easy to dislike when things aren’t going his way.
The almost 112 million viewers who tuned into CBS will easily be the biggest TV broadcast this year, but the low-scoring game didn’t have the excitement of last year’s Super Bowl win by the New England Patriots over the Seattle Seahawks, which drew a record 114.4 million viewers on NBC.
