Eli Manning seeks to become NFL’s highest-paid player with ..
It was reported that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning wants to be the highest-paid player in the NFL. If the New York Giants use the franchise tag on him, Eli Manning will be owed $23.7 or $25 million in 2016. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is now the highest-paid player in the league, earning an average of $22 million per year.
With Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson all signing contract extensions recently, Manning may be the next in line to secure his long-term future.
Manning is a two-time Super Bowl Champion, and is now looking for possibly the final contract extension of his career. Obviously, he has the achievements to back his demands, and despite being 34, he hasn’t missed a start since his rookie season and is coming off what statistically was his best regular season ever. Furthermore, the contract could be structured in such a way that it makes Manning the highest-paid player in terms of annual salary and guaranteed money. He wants to be the highest now.
Speculations were out that while Manning was said to be requesting that big of an amount, the Giants management was “offering significantly less”, although it is more likely not lower than the three-time Pro Bowler’s present remuneration.
“I know that was never said by him, claiming that was the goal”, Manning said. Manning said after last season, “No intentions of playing anywhere else”.
Giants proprietor John Mara has stated that he hopes to have his franchise quarterback signed by the beginning of the season.
I just don’t think there’s a whole lot of point worrying about it. I got things I have to do, get ready for practice every day and that’s what I’m focused on. So even if Manning didn’t say those words to Condon, the agent certainly has the power invested in him to make such a request to the New York Giants. He is getting 17 million from the Giants this season.
There is such a dearth of quality, winning quarterbacks in the NFL, the number of teams desperate to have one on their rosters far outnumber the ones who are content at the position. Eli’s body language on the field seems off to me like he is just going through the motions. As a result, Manning’s camp is going for broke in contract negotiations, but asking to be the highest-paid player in the NFL could cause the Giants to move on from Manning.
