Eli Manning sets new career-high passing mark
That turned out to be the winning margin for the New York Giants.
Beckham was the main target for quarterback Eli Manning, who passed for four touchdowns to lead the Giants past the Dolphins 31-24 at Sun Life Stadium. He was a stellar 27-of-31 for 337 yards and four touchdowns. He had a passer rating of 151.5, just shy of the ideal rating of 158.3.
While the Giants’ win placed them back in contention for first while effectively ending their three-game losing streak, they can not afford to lose any more games this season if they plan on making their playoff dreams a reality.
For more recent context, Beckham Jr. has 427 more receiving yards through 24 career games than any other player through 25 career games in the past 15 seasons.
That’s not saying the Giants will come through and win enough to get into the playoffs, because their defense is also about to give up a ton of yards and points to the Panthers, Vikings and Eagles.
The Dolphins (5-8) were mathematically eliminated from the playoff race.
Marino was waiting to be part of the halftime festivities honoring the 50 greatest Dolphins as part of the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
As far as Monday night was concerned, the humbled Beckham, who finished with seven receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns, admitted that he was indeed sick in the truest definition of the word. Barring that, the Giants would have to turn to a running game that is the third worst at producing yards per carry (3.6) and the second worst at scoring touchdowns (three).
Beckham missed one series, when he went to the locker room due to cramps in both calves, but he didn’t let that slow him down.
On their first score, the Dolphins took advantage of a blitz by Giants safety Craig Dahl. He had 12 touchdowns all of last season and with three games to go, he’s likely not done yet in 2015.
“He sets the example”, quarterback Eli Manning said.
“We knew it was a big game because the Eagles and Redskins had won, and we had to stay tied”, Beckham said afterward to a group of reporters.
“The corner was supposed to follow up and go over the top”, Jones said, “which he didn’t”. Landry was the complete focus of Tannehill and the inability to find other targets consistently made the Dolphins offense one-dimensional yet again. “He’s just continuing to do what he does”.
Manning threw touchdown passes to wide receiver Rueben Randle (six yards) and tight end Will Tye (five yards). The first came in the third quarter, when he hauled in a 6-yard TD catch that would tie the game up. However, Tannehill threw over Landry’s head.
-COACHING: C – Miami abandoned the run in the fourth quarter and left Beckham one-on-one more times than seemed wise. Running back Lamar Miller (12 carries, 89 yards, two touchdowns) was also good, especially on his 38-yard touchdown run.
HOBBLED: Injuries took a toll on the Giants.
Contrast that with the Giants’ first possession of the fourth quarter.
But Coughlin said Tuesday Suh was incredibly dominant on the inside against the Giants’ line, even if the stats don’t show it. “It snapped my neck.”…
NOTES: Dolphins CB Bobby McCain went into the concussion protocol. Beckham, who had a stomach virus last week, was badly dehydrated at the start of the second half.
