Eli to Cruz sets up Giants win again, 16-13 over Saints
Sometimes, the new people just don’t work out.
Brees and the Saints got out to a slow start against the New York Giants, with Brees needing four drives to actually reach 36 yards, but he did it. Manning has looked good in the first two games and thinks it’s nice to pull out the close games they faltered in past year. As much as Giants fans may want to talk about Victor Cruz’s huge catch that set up the game-winning 23-yard field goal by Josh Brown, it was the Giants’ defense that kept the Saints’ offense in check and kept the game close so that NY could steal it in the end.
“Actually, I just heard the hand hit the ball and I just went looking for the ball, and it was a flawless bounce, and I just scooped and scored”, Jenkins said.
New Orleans rookie kicker Wil Lutz had his 38-yard field-goal attempt blocked by a hard-rushing Jonathan Hankins, and the ball was scooped up by Janoris Jenkins, whose 65-yard runback marked the first time the Giants had returned a blocked field goal for six points since the 2008 season. Defensive end Paul Kruger fell on the ball which came on a sack.
“It wasn’t fifty-plus points”, he said. “That was a good quarterback out there”.
The Saints blamed themselves for a second straight close loss.
Brees was frustrated, especially wasting a great effort by his own defence, which forced three turnovers and did not allow a touchdown. “We felt like we bit ourselves in the foot so many times, we stopped ourselves on the offensive side”.
To start the half, quarterback Eli Manning marched down the field, but the drive ended in a missed field goal.
“Man, we are just coming out and trying to make plays”. On that trajectory he could pass both Manning and Favre both in the game.
Sterling Shepard – Eight targets, eight catches, 117 yards. Even though he didn’t punch it into the endzone, Odell Beckham, Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz nickel-and-dimed the Saints all day.
The former undrafted wide receiver had a massive game for the Saints last week, hauling in nine catches for 172 yards and a touchdown.
“We stopped the run and we were definitely getting Brees off of his spot, so that he doesn’t see those open receivers if he has any and just make a play when he throws the ball”, said safety Landon Collins, who had one of the Giants’ two sacks. Despite the lack of points, NY seemed liked they were dominating the game. But Giant football, New York Football Giants, this is what we’re known for. “Our offense didn’t play the game they wanted to play, not really scoring too much”.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done as a defence”.
McAdoo is in a small class having won his first two games. It finished 8-8. So the Saints, who had their hands over filled with the Raiders offensive weapons a week ago won’t get any breaks this week in NY.
In a freakish occurrence, Williams was kneed in the head twice while tackling Giants tight end Larry Donnell.
Giants RT Marshall Newhouse left with a calf injury and S Mykkele Thompson had a knee injury.
“It’s good to be back”, said Brown who spent the week at home with his daughter. Long week last week.
This will be a fun game for fans to watch, but could be a long day for each defensive unit.
