Elizabeth Warren has finally endorsed Hillary Clinton
“She’s got the courage, the compassion and the heart to get this job done”.
In that election Obama bested Clinton to become the first black president. The endorsement comes two days after Clinton’s decisive victory over Warren’s senatorial colleague, Bernie Sanders, in California; and mere hours after an endorsement from sitting United States president Barack Obama.
The District of Columbia holds the final Democratic primary on Tuesday, and Clinton is favored to win a majority of its 20 pledged delegates.
“… And Senator Sanders himself said how much he appreciated that President Obama and Vice President Biden kept that promise”, he said in response to a question. Having polled heavily among liberals and young White voters, the Sanders campaign revealed the weaknesses that plagued Clinton in 2008 too. She told Time: “I would be surprised if I campaigned for Donald Trump based on his behavior and comments thus far, but I believe in redemption”. He did not endorse her.
Sanders also said he wants Clinton to push for free tuition at public colleges and universities, on which both agree, despite different plans.
Warren took a similar beating to her reputation back in March when she failed to endorse Sanders before the MA primary, and you would think people would have prepared themselves for the inevitable.
Despite his refusals to back down against his better-known opponent, a more conciliatory Sanders spoke to the press at the White House after his meeting with Obama.
“I also want to thank everybody who turned out to vote and who worked so hard for our candidates”, Obama said.
“It was likely Sanders’ last campaign rally”. “We will continue to do everything we can to oppose the drift which now exists toward an oligarchy form of society where a handful of billionaires exercise enormous power over our political, economic and media life”. He has vowed to campaign through the June 14 primary election in the nation’s capital.
The endorsement is a big step in helping the party unite behind the presumptive nominee. Clinton should keep in mind, however, that Bernie Sanders had better numbers in the polls against Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton did when Bernie was still in the running, a fact that social media trumpeted nearly constantly – social media users are a heavily liberal crowd.
