Ellie Goulding Performs New Song Live At Abbey Road Studios
“Devotion” offers a subdued moment on this album; this hypnotic highlight sees Goulding at her most seductive and impassioned.
Although she has Max Martin and Greg Kurstin steering the production this time around, it’s still Goulding’s flair for innovation that makes it exciting. It includes “Love Me Like You Do”, her smash hit from the “Fifty Shades of Gray” movie as well as the single now getting airplay, “On My Mind”.
Delirium is Goulding’s third studio album, and “Love Me Like You Do” sits waiting in its middle like cream inside an éclair.
Goulding took another misstep by not only releasing a standard album but also a redundant deluxe version. “I’m obsessed with this idea of someone in your past resonating really strongly with someone in your present, and still having an effect on you for a few reason”.
People have speculated that Mind was written as a response to ex-flame Ed Sheeran’s hit Don’t – an idea Goulding has since dismissed, although she isn’t bothered if fans want to believe it. “Meat And Candy” is Old Dominion’s debut LP, while Sara Bareilles’ “What’s Inside” is a unique collection of songs from the “Waitress” musical (“The Blessed Unrest”, her previous, more conventional studio album, sold 68,000 in its inaugural frame). The latter is probably the album’s most accessible track pairing thudding beats with tropical stylings and a breezy chorus made to put a smile on your face. “/ Scream it out, out”, she sings.
“I was very naive and pretending to deal with it, but not actually dealing with it”, Goulding says. All those things, you just take with a pinch of salt.
The accolade marks a particularly stellar year for the 28-year-old, who recently released her new album, Delirium, and is set to appear as the headline act in the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. If she is lucky, she won’t have to wait two years this time to achieve a hit.
“I feel like in America, I’ve had bigger songs, but there’s no correlation between my success and how much I’ve been celebrated. Now I don’t know”, said Goulding in an interview with SPIN. “Love Me Like You Do” is one of them; single “Army” is better still, a teenage paean for a close friend that explodes into an intense, heartwarming finales. She doesn’t fill gossip page fodder in the way Taylor Swift or Katy Perry does and she’s not competing for the most followed account on Instagram (although 7 million is nothing to turn your nose up at). Based on one day sales, Hits Daily Double expects a 40-45,000 weekly USA sales total for both albums.
