Ellison announces Democratic National Committee bid

Just a week ago, political analysts believed Hillary Clinton would deliver Democrats the presidency, the party would take control of the Senate, while making big gains in the House. Treating Trump’s victory as a repudiation of neoliberalism-rather than a repudiation of cosmopolitanism-he offered to collaborate with the president-elect. “Since becoming chair, I’ve had the opportunity to work very closely with Congressman Ellison, and share his vision for re-energizing our broad and diverse Democratic coalition and ensuring that all voices are represented in our party’s leadership”.

The Democratic National Committee should slow down its search for a new leader, Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper said Wednesday. For several years, Ellison has helped lead the Congressional Progressive Caucus in the House.

The black congressman echoed President Barack Obama, who said Monday that he didn’t win states like Iowa because the demographics worked in his favor – his success was based on his 87 visits to the state, and said, ‘white people voted for Obama two times in a row’. This makes the candidacy of Ellison more interesting- a Muslim Democrat backed by Jewish leaders like Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer.

Brazile will remain the DNC interim head for a few months until the committee meets to elect a new chair in 2017.

“If there’s a silver lining it’s that the loss accelerates the tough conversations that we need to have as Democrats”, said Ron Kirk, the former Dallas mayor and former USA trade representative under Obama.

While praising Ellison, Dean said running the DNC is a full-time job, implying that Ellison wouldn’t be an effective party leader while still serving in Congress.

‘It should never have been this close, ‘ he said of last week’s election. We are not Democrats first. “It’s not possible”, Dean said in an interview with MSNBC. “The Democratic Party has to be focused on grass-roots America and not wealthy people attending cocktail parties”.

The truth is, the DNC, like the Democratic Party, needs a lot of reinvention. We need a New Democratic Party that will fight against intolerance and widening inequality. “Every day for the past week, the majority of American voters have awakened to a hard reality”, Nevada Sen. “We have to talk to everybody all the time, and we have to talk to them everywhere”.

The 40-year-old Orangeburg native and Yale University graduate wrote on social media over the weekend that he was considering a bid for the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee. The job of progressive leaders is to say no to Trump, not search for areas of cooperation. Dean previously served as chairman from 2005 to 2009, and his 50-state strategy was credited with helping Democrats retake the House and Senate in 2006. On the ground, this change in perceiving Islam has made American Muslims a more vulnerable target for hate crimes, more so in the last week. “This is key for us to understand in terms of our legitimate opposition”. John Conyers Jr. of Detroit and Dan Kildee of D-Flint Township have endorsed Ellison for the DNC post. “We must build a bench not just for federal candidates, but for state and local candidates across the nation”, he said in his announcement. “Mr. Bannon has called the Pope a ‘commie, ‘” said Ellison.
