Elon Students Raise Over $7000 to Send Coffee Shop Worker To Disney
The students set up a GoFundMe page that outlined all the ways in which Thompson lights up the Acorn with her presence.
After hearing about Thompson’s dream and the fact that she couldn’t afford to make it a reality, Zisholtz and Smith-Williams hatched a plan to give Thompson the surprise of a lifetime.
According to Elon Local News, Kathryn has been working on campus for over 10 years. They recently presented her with more than $6,000 so she and her family could take a trip to Disney World – something she’s always dreamed of but could never afford.
“She’s been here for a long time”, Glenn Austin, Acorn’s assistant location manager told their campus newspaper, The Pendulum.
I imagine Elon University students Lucy Smith-Williams and Taylor Zisholtz felt the same way about their nighttime coffee barista, Kathryn Thompson. When the pair later agreed Thompson deserved recognition, they knew what it should be. Thompson said has always wanted to visit the Sunshine State.
The students say Thompson’s eyes lit up when she learned Smith-Williams was from Florida.
“It didn’t take long for me and …” “And how much do you think it would cost for me to take my family of five to Disney World?”
“We want to thank you for all that you do, you and your family are going to Disney World”, Taylor Zisholtz said.
As a thank you for the work that Kathryn does, Lucy and Taylor chose to surprise Kathryn with her lifelong wish of going to Disney World.
The university students would often were actually more than pleased to help Thompson’s fantasy coming true.
