Elvis Week: Graceland Online Auction to Feature 170+ Items
Among them were some of the highest-profile lots, including a jumpsuit purportedly worn by Elvis during a series 1973 shows in Las Vegas and a guitar supposedly signed by the King as well as Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.
They’re among 174 authenticated artifacts up for auction Thursday evening at Graceland, Presley’s longtime Memphis, Tennessee, home.
As part of the festivities, many items will be auctioned off from his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tenn. beginning today.
The third official sale held since Graceland Auctions and its related authentication service were launched in 2014, Thursday’s event saw some 155 items go under the hammer. Bids were accepted online for weeks before the auction starts, reports the Associated Press.
Davis wasn’t at her office Thursday, but deputy clerk Nathan Davis said the office was advised by its attorneys with the Christian law firm Liberty Counsel to continue refusing same-sex couples as it appeals. Over the course of several hours, spurred by the relentlessly upbeat burbling of the Graceland auctioneer, more than half a million dollars was spent on Elvis relics. But the biggest shocker is that the aged kicks are expected to bring in as much as $6,000, according to ABC News.
Along with the weapon are clothes the rock star wore in some of his films, such as the finely fitted yellow jacket he sported when dancing with actress Ann-Margret in “Viva Las Vegas” in 1964. Items such as a 1957 Elvis Presley doll still in the box sold for $5,000, half the expected $10,000 projection.
The 1962 dark, charcoal-colored suit was worn by Presley in the MGM movie It Happened At The World’s Fair. He estimates he has around 600 items, worth around $4 million in total. Estimate: $15,000-$20,000.
Presley gave the 14-carat yellow gold owl ring to a fan after a concert in Lake Tahoe in May 1973.
