Emile Hirsch Pleads Guilty in Sundance Film Festival Attack
Hirsch was booked into jail March 16 and released the same day after choking a woman at an afterparty for the Sundance Film Festival held a nightclub in Park City in January, according to a report from Fox 13.
Emile Hirsch has been sentenced to 15 days behind bars for attacking a female Paramount executive at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
The 30-year-old actor from Encino, California, has made two court appearances in Park City but has not entered a plea or made any comments outside court. After the 15 days, he’ll be on probation for 90 days, have to pay a $4,750 fine, conduct 50 hours of community service, and attend “aftercare” sessions. The intoxication charge was dismissed.
Ms Bernfeld, for her part, said the plea deal did not go far enough, saying the attack had caused her long-term damage.
The Associated Press says Hirsch apologized for his actions, which reportedly included putting Daniele Bernfeld in a chokehold and throwing her across a table and onto the floor.
He subsequently confessed he had no recollection of the incident, and checked into a rehabilitation facility in February to deal with his alcohol issues.
The Paramount employee previously said the assault was “insanely painful and absolutely terrifying”, and she feared for her life.
A statement from Bernfield asking for a stricter punishment was read today in court. Bernfeld told the police that the actor had three or four drinks.
She said authorities treated her with respect and dignity, but she’s disappointed that prosecutors agreed to a deal that meets the bare minimum. Bernfeld said in a statement sent by Los Angeles attorney Don Etra.
As well as “Into the Wild”, the actor also appeared in the US Navy SEAL drama “Lone Survivor”, about a disastrous 2005 military operation in Afghanistan.
