Emilio Izaguirre scores twice as Celtic crush Dundee at Parkhead
Returning midfielder Tom Rogic scored with a volley in the 14th minute before setting up Leigh Griffiths two minutes later for the Hoops’ second goal and the striker’s 10th of the season.
Emilio Izaguirre arguably cost Celtic victory in their opening Europa League fixture when he was sent off late in last Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Ajax in Amsterdam.
He told CelticTV: “He was here to watch the game and get to know us, to see the city and the club”. If we work on our own game and keep improving then we’ll see where we are but for now it’s just about keeping going.
“He is a target man, very good in the air and strong and that is something that, if everything fits, could be good for us”.
The left-back should have had a hat-trick when he was handed the spot-kick after substitute Callum McGregor was brought down in the area by Gary Irvine, but the Honduran rocketed his penalty high over the crossbar.
Deila said: “He was here to look at the game”.
“There was too much pressure, he had to wait a few seconds and I think he was thinking too much”.
“Obviously it was disappointing last weekend, but we performed well during the week and got a good point away and could have got more“. The success came with bonuses which included Nadir Ciftci’s first goal since he joined from Dundee United during the summer and Celtic’s first clean sheet since on August 9. But he was out through suspension and that made it hard for him.
“He is different to what we have”.
“The manager has given me a lot of confidence to play in this team and it’s easy playing with good players”, Rogic said.
The Dons made it an impressive eight out of eight in the league with their stunning 3-1 win at Hearts. I’m going to go and train and see how I like it and see how the boys are.
Dundee manager Paul Hartley admitted that his side should be embarrassed by the result and gave pass marks only to keeper Scott Bain, who kept the score beneath double figures.
