Emily Blunt in Talks to Star in Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel!
Sources say Blunt has always been the favorite since all four worked together on “Into the Woods”.
With the studio eager to begin work soon on the sequel to the 1964 classic, Variety is reporting that Disney is in talks with Emily Blunt to star in the new project.
Ironically, Blunt’s The Devil Wears Prada co-star Anne Hathaway was also rumoured to be a top choice for the role, but she shot down the reports and insisted her pal Blunt was the right choice for the part.
Disney franchises are growing and the latest sequel includes that classic “Mary Poppins” who is led by no other than Dame Julie Andrews. The sequel will take storylines from the P.L. Travers’ books “focusing on the magical nanny’s continued adventures with the Banks family”.
She’ll be reteaming with her “Into The Woods” director Rob Marshall, and the movie has “Life Of Pi” writer David Magee taking on the script, with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman creating the tunes. Flawless timing for little Jane and Michael to have grown up and had children of their own for Mary Poppins to play nanny to. The movie combined both live-action and animation, and was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, winning five of them including Best Actress for Andrews.
The actress will next be seen alongside Chris Hemsworth in The Huntsman: The Winter’s War on April 22nd.
