Emirates adds four weekly flights to Phuket service
Emirates Airline was among a number of carriers, which decided to suspend their flights to Baghdad in January after a bullet hit the fuselage of a plane operated by its sister airline, flydubai, when it was touching down in the Iraqi capital, wounding a young girl. At least seven airlines suspended flights to Baghdad after the shooting but while most resumed operations within days Emirates did not. However, it later postponed the date indefinitely.
The airline will operate with four weekly flights to Baghdad, served by an A330-200 aircraft in a three class configuration.
While Emirates may soon be the new leader in distance traveled during a non-stop commercial flight, it does not hold the all-time record.
“Singapore Airlines has been in discussions with manufacturers recently about a possible reintroduction of this service, however, that would require some modifications from either Boeing or Airbus to find a viable aircraft to make the journey, and more importantly, make it economical”, Clarkson added. The return flight, EK 942 will depart Baghdad international Airport at 1040hrs arriving in Dubai at 1400hrs.
