Emirates EK 521 Crash-landing at Dubai airport
Boeing said it was “thankful” that all aboard were safe and that a Boeing technical team was “standing by to launch in support of the USA national transportation safety board”, but referred questions to the GCAA.
No Canadians were on board the aircraft.
All operations are now suspended at Dubai International. The plane at right was unaffected Dubai-based airline Emirates has confirmed that there were no fatalities on a flight from India that crash-landed.
“Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport at about 12.45 pm”, the airline tweeted.
He said that only one person – a crew member – had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
And all the passengers escaped unhurt. Many flights diverted to other airports or returned to their origin.
The airport is by far the Mideast’s busiest airport, and is the world’s busiest air hub in terms of worldwide passenger traffic.
There were a total of 74 foreigners on board the flight including 24 from the United Kingdom, 11 from the UAE and six each from the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.
Two people each came from Australia, Brazil, Germany, Malaysia and Thailand, and one each from Croatia, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon, Philippines, South Africa, Switzerland and Tunisia. More than 20 British passengers were amongst the hundreds.
Many took to Twitter immediately to thank the Emirates crew that saved so many lives.
The aircraft involved in the accident is a Boeing 777-300 that was delivered in March 2003.
The paper covers the southern Indian state of Kerala, of which Thiruvananthapuram is the capital.

They added that there were275 people on board, including passengers and crew. Flat-screen televisions showed all incoming Emirates flights delayed or rescheduled.
A spokesperson for operator Dubai Airports said all passengers and crew aboard flight EK521 coming from Thiruvananthapuram had been evacuated and emergency services were managing the situation.
Reports suggested that the airliner touched down without its landing gear extended, but Sheikh Ahmed declined to answer questions about the undercarriage, saying he wanted fuller details to provide accurate information.
Verified video footage on social media showed thick black smoke rising from the aircraft as it stood on the tarmac.
