Emirates new Airbus A380 has a capacity of 615 passengers
By doing away with first class, instead having just two classes on the new airliners – business and economy – Emirates has seats for 615 passengers.
The luxury Gulf carrier has made room for about 130 additional economy seats by scrapping the spacious first class cabin and trimming 18 flat-bed seats from business class.
Over the weekend the airline unveiled the new Airbus A380 which has been revamped to hold a whopping 615 seats.
Of the remaining 71 A380s not assigned to the Dubai-based carrier, around 60% are the subject of uncertainty over delivery schedules, including 20 for lessor Amedeo, six for Virgin Atlantic, two for Air Austral and 10 which were originally booked for Hong Kong Airlines but which were reclassified as undisclosed in March past year.
The two-class planes will carry around 100 more passengers than the three-class fleet.
The airline said every seat on the plane will feature a 13.3 inch screen, one of the widest in the industry, with in-flight entertainment options spanning a huge choice of 2,000 channels of films, television shows, music and games.
Airbus A380 planes are typically huge boasting four engines and two floors of seats.
Emirates existing fleet of A380s now offer three classes – first, business and economy.
Visitors were among the first to board the double-decker, although they didn’t have the luxury of leaving the ground.
The average flight time is seven hours and a one-way economy class ticket costs about £350 ($540).
The removal of the first class seats allowed for about 130 more seats in the giant aircraft. The 615-seater which is expected to begin flying a route between Dubai and Copenhagen in December, can fit a small village. The Emirates A380 now flies it to 34 destinations around the world from Dubai.
