Emma Stone Wins the Best Actress Oscar For ‘La La Land’
Last night’s Oscar ceremony had plenty of firsts, including a presenter straight up reading the wrong victor for the evening’s culminating Best Picture award. It was originally announced that “La La Land” won, but the victor was actually, “Moonlight”.
“This is not a joke, come up here”. In the actual video it’s obvious Vickie from Chicago is a pretty big fan of the Canadian actor, who was nominated for Best Actor following his work in La La Land, which he lost out to Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea for, but the photo tells a different story.
In seven out of the past eight years, the victor of that award has gone on to claim Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The bad end to an otherwise triumphant show left the audience gasping in horror, stunned by the mishap – which appeared to have been caused by Beatty opening the wrong envelope. “So thank you so much”. “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land”, he said.
“I wasn’t trying to be amusing”.
Stone, who played aspiring actress Mia opposite Ryan Gosling’s Sebastian in the Damien Chazelle-directed film, began her acceptance speech by thanking her fellow nominees.
“I f-ing love Moonlight! I am so excited for Moonlight”, the 28-year-old said.
Well, there was that whole Moonlight, La La Land thing that kind deserves its own set of memes… “I think we all would have loved to win Best Picture, but we are so excited for “Moonlight”.
Stone happily accepted the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in the final hour of the evening from last year’s Best Actor victor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Following the telecast, Stone entered a stunned press room and was asked how she felt about “Moonlight” winning best picture.
While everybody has started questioning why there were two cards for one announcement, Variety cleared that Oscars always had this system of printing two cards. “They hand the envelopes to the presenters right before they walk out”. I look up to you, and I admire you more than I can put into words. This felt like another planet.
The late-night host had recently said he didn’t think his Oscars cold-opener would “be very political”. “Cool! We made history!”
She went on to say of the Fences” playwright, “Here’s to August Wilson who exhumed, and exalted, the ordinary people’.
Going by the above choices, this is what we feel about who deserves to win the award and who will…. Sound off your thoughts in the comments section below.
