Emmys 2015: Tracy Morgan gets standing ovation 15 months after horrific
Check out Morgan’s heartwarming appearance at the Emmys in the video below.
In one of the most genuinely poignant moments from Sunday’s Emmy ceremony, Tracy Morgan made a surprise appearance to present the Best Drama Series victor . “I miss you guys so much”, he said to an extended standing ovation.
“Well, Jimmy, thanks to my awesome doctors, and the support of my family and my lovely new wife, I’m here, standing on my own two feet”.
Morgan also talked about the extent of his injuries, saying that you could still see the scars on his head, and that when the crash first happened, he couldn’t see or walk. Seeing Morgan deliver his speech with complete serious sincerity was remarkable and we could barely hold it together.
“As the months and months went by, part of my therapy was seeing TV and seeing my friends and feeling like I’m coming back…”
On June 7, 2014, a tractor-trailer slammed into the limousine that the comedian was riding, killing his friend and fellow passenger, James McNair.
Despite the devastating accident and the long road to recovery, Morgan believes it is necessary that he returns to comedy.
As the mood became sombre, Morgan got in form and started rolling out his trademark jokes. You have to understand, in the last 15 months, I missed this stuff. “The conversation got kind of emotional, and I said, ‘Lorne, I want to come home.'” Morgan said. “And one day I came across his funeral on YouTube and I just – I lost it for about a week”.
Tracy Morgan’s comeback speech at last night’s Primetime Emmy Awards (embedded above) was an inspiring and memorable moment and it looks like the comedian is using it as a springboard to get his career and life back on track following the severe injuries he sustained in a auto crash last June.
Afterward, a teary-eyed Morgan took a seat backstage on the raised platform in the press room and took questions.
