Emotional video shows boy waking after heart transplant
His mother told ABC News that Trevor asked her to record the moment he woke up from the surgery.
“I feel fantastic”, replied Trevor.
A month later, a group of cardiologists at a local hospital told the family Trevor’s heart was failing.
This teen’s emotional first words after waking up from a heart transplant have touched the hearts of tens of thousands of people.
“I’m so happy”, the 15-year-old from Southfield said after awakening from a heart transplant operation in November.
An update to the Go Fund Me campaign the family setup to pay their medical bills passed along Trevor’s appreciation, “He is so grateful for the gift of life and for all of the support from his family, friends, community and all of you who have supported him over the past year”. His parents attributed symptoms he felt on the football field in September 2014 to allergies.
He was diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy and was hospitalized after his heart suddenly failed. According to a GoFundMe page, Trevor’s heart rate was highly irregular. Although Sullivan knows nothing about the person that donated his new heart, he is extremely thankful they chose to be a donor. “It makes us feel really good that he was able to be saved because it was getting really scary”. “He was going down the wrong path until we got the call”. “As you have seen, we are only one of many, many families that have had to go through this traumatic life experience, either on the recipient or on the donor side”. They hope he can be back to school at Birmingham Groves High by March.
