‘Empire’ co-creator Daniels to create series pilot for Fox
With both Warner Bros. and Marvel making significant expansions for the franchises on the small screen, an X-Men TV show would be a way for the studio to their properties continue to receive a solid level of exposure. Now it appears as if Fox has moved from the brainstorming phase to the actually doing phase of development. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce something soon.
During a recent press tour of the Television Critics Association, The Hollywood Reporter discovered that FOX is working on closing a deal to make one of the most beloved Marvel groups a live-action television series.
Given the lukewarm reaction to the new Fantastic Four movie, perhaps the return of those movie rights to Marvel could be thrown in as part of the deal to let Fox produce this X-Men TV series?
Walden also confirmed that the ultimate goal was for the new X-Men TV show to be a “long-running” series, and not a mere revival.
“The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature side so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney”, Walden explained.
Earlier inthe year, THR reported that Fox had tapped two of the Star Trek: Beyond writers, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, to write a pilot and series bible, with former 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto lined up as showrunners. “This will be exclusively with the franchise as it has existed at Fox”, she said. The X-Men universe is certainly large enough to include a range of different potential shows.
