‘Empire’ Co-Creator Talks Cookie’s ‘Lyon Dynasty,’ Hakeem’s ‘Vendetta to Be
And then suddenly Papa Lyon is flashing back to his own childhood, as his mother sings “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and gets spaced out by the halfway mark – though what her deal is is hard to tell. What’s wrong with adding another Latina in the group?
“I’m scared for [Andre], Jamal“.
Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) visits Jamal to tell him she’s anxious about Jamal and begs him to take Andre back. He immediately gives Jamal his card and offers up his services to the singer.
The development of Jamal and Lucious continues to be baffling and borderline anger inducing.
Jamal pulls up to Hakeem on the side of the street in a auto all mafia-style. He loves his mom but decides to go back to Empire because that’s where his heart is.
After the leak, Andre has had enough and asks his mother to let him go. She also breaks the news that she and Andre are having a baby.
Turns out Thirsty has a lot of friends on the inside. He later realizes if they start their own company, Valentina could play a big part in growing it.
McKnight is a pawn of the prosecutor who has him withhold meds from Lucious that would keep him healthy. Unfortunately, Ford’s buddy McKnight, shows up and ruins everything. Perhaps Lucious the Bad Father stems from a few deep-seated mommy issues a la Tony Soprano. While Officer McKnight and Lucious are talking, Lucious basically threatened the guard and he held true to his word. Hakeem and Jamal seem to bury the hatchet, with Hakeem showing interest in returning to Empire. Hakeem made a decision to take things into his own hands and leak it all online. He doesn’t care if he’ll lose money or get sued, but his big brother Andre does. Andre isn’t too happy with Hakeem running things without permission.
But, like any episode of Empire, there was plenty going on besides Lucious’ freedom. No problem. I’d be surprised if we hadn’t seen that HD TV and all that unsupervised time last episode – oh and the cannabalism and murder. Dynasty Records. I thought they were gonna pick Legendary Records because Hakeem was repeating it more than Barney Stinson. Cookie is unable to say anything to get him to stay. The new name? Lyon Dynasty. “Empire” Sneak Peek: Watch Tiana Perform Her “Sexy” New Song Before Tonight’s Episode! A guy named Thirsty (!) – with a law degree from the University of Guam (!!) – lands a job defending one of the richest and most powerful men in music.
Thirsty calls for a bail hearing for Lucious.
“Empire”, just as gold-plated, star-studded and superfluous as it always is, felt like a rehashing of the same drama from last season, only this time less organically. Luscious’ lawyer finally shows up at court with new evidence. The judge rules to release Lucious on one million dollars bail.
Anika has been coaxed by Hakeem into joining Cookie’s new label – without Cookie’s knowledge. The head-honcho over at FOX, Dana Walden, did not shoot down the idea of moving forward with a spinoff of the runaway-hit Empire, as long as the characters have a story that audiences could connect with. Do you think Lyon Dynasty will stand a chance against Empire?
Looking back to season one, what do you think has changed the most about Jamal? And Andre and Hakeem find themselves at each others’ throats when the young rapper – his album in limbo since it contractually belongs to Empire Records – decides to become a “mogul”.
Cookie and Hakeem are sweeping their formerly Jewish warehouse loft when they hear Lucious’s song on the radio.
