Empire Recap 11/25/15: Season 2 Episode 9 “Sinned Against”
Later on, she goes to his apartment, insisting that they’re destined to be together. Boo Boo Kitty’s blonde wig is gone – but her descent into madness is as vibrant as ever.
While Cookie is out of town, she leaves Hakeem in charge of Lyon Dynasty. Cookie tells Lucious that when they were beyond broke, all they had was the music.
Rhonda is loving the attention she’s getting from Lucious. Not only socially in America, really talking about how we all matter, you know, and one of my favorite lines in the song is, ‘I see a colorful future where skin don’t define any human, and stars are the only things shooting.’ And it’s really, it’s really lovely, obviously with all the things we’ve been dealing with, you know.
Pepper led the sisters to Carol, who promptly vomited on Candace’s shoes. But things will not turn out well after Cookie finds out what her lover is hiding. Pepper, who is now a baker, says Carol is hanging out with a bad group of people. Candace fights her to stay and blames Cookie for the trouble Carol is in. Yes, he wanted to scheme Cookie out of millions, but I feel like he was mostly just in over his head.
Anika, by the way, is still losing it, barging in on one of Hakeem’s parties to insult the crap out of Laura. He tries to convince Cookie to sign over the rights to the old songs that she produced but she didn’t budge. Good for you, Hakeem.
Meanwhile, back home, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will collaborate with an artist named Skye Summers (Alicia Keys) to work on his own music. He wants to help her break out of all the definitions that the music industry has placed on her in order to make her true self shine through. Cookie stole Laz’s gun and gave it to Lucious. For instance, Anika (Grace Gealey) is still hung up on Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray), and even goes to Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) for more advice on what to do. Insane enough to not realize that Laz was untrustworthy at first, and insane enough to not realize he is trustworthy now. In the promotional video, she can be seen confronting Hakeem and trying to force him to admit that he is in love with her. Cookie says no and Laz walks in, who kisses Cookie. Can we believe that Lucious is just really happy about becoming a grandfather?
“Thank you for letting me see you”, coos back Jamal. It’s like my other favorite show, Intervention.
The next scene cut to Jamal singing while Skye played the piano. Through this, the two of them will develop a tight bond of friendship.
In their defense, listen to the attractive and lyrically “powerful” song below. I can’t decide if there were more plotlines or guest stars in this episode.
What were your thoughts on this episode of Empire? If/when those stories collide, I think we’re going to get fireworks.
What did you think of this week’s Empire?
But there’s not much time for my dialogue-induced indignation, as Jamal leans in for a little mouth-to-mouth (definitely a euphemism), and Skye doesn’t look all that unreceptive. I sure hope so!
