Empire Recap: Now I Ain’t Sayin’ She’s a Grave Digger
At Lucious’ request, Jamal went through with his Rolling Stone magazine cover shoot at home. “Lang” or better yet, totally railroad Lucious’ big Apex Radio deal by lying to Roxanne Ford and connecting it to a crime investigation.
Mimi (Marisa Tomei) returns to a board meeting along with Jamal when Lucious comes back and decides he doesn’t care he’s not allowed in the building.
Thankfully, Empire greys the line somewhat by making the law semi-shady and willing to go to extremes, even though they’re largely in the right with this case. As he searches for Vernon (Malik Yoba) to make sure he doesn’t rat him out, the Empire building will be searched by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Further, Lucious may be planing to find the only witness in the case against him. It does not look like their performance will show brotherly love, as speculations are rife about Hakeem doing something during the performance to get back at Lucious for taking away Valentina from him. So when Lucious shows his gratitude for Hakeem agreeing to do the video with Jamal by presenting him a catchy track for a future song, Hakeem is leery. Cookie gives Anika a task to complete, and she’s more than happy to do so. He also knows that Andre (Trai Byers) is the one that killed Vernon, which opens the door for the eldest Lyon son to return to Empire – and maybe finally get a few sleep. Lucious says he won’t because of what he did, but he still wants to have a relationship with Andre’s future child and be a good grandfather. Musingly, and with a smidgen of incredulousness, Lucious tells Andre if he can make that happen, he will give him anything he wants.
Meanwhile, Anika, who is in team Cookie says, “Something’s happening at Empire”. Season 2 Hakeem has actually been a lot easier to stomach, mostly just because it’s easy to root for whoever is on Cookie’s side.
The theme – fiery setting with a steel cage – of the Lyon brothers’ music video has been borrowed from the latest “Mad Max” movie.
Viewers can catch the new and exciting episode of “Empire” at the comfort of their own mobile devices, computers and smart TVs.
Back at the shoot, Hakeem listens to the track Lucious created, and is quite impressed. (Is he supposed to be imitating Andy Warhol or nah?) Hakeem, jealous and acting like a spoiled brat, TBH, slits painting-Jamal’s throat. Jamal and Hakeem start fighting on the video set, which leads to Hakeem quitting. Shortly after her arrival in jail (where they didn’t take away her suicide-abetting clothing), she got a visit from the prosecutor, who threatened to go after her sons if she didn’t play ball. Cookie goes outside to make a phone call to Portia, and is arrested for, what she is told, a failure to appear in court.
