“Empire” Season 2 Premiered To 16 Million Viewers
The season two premiere shows Lucious in prison following his murder of Cookie’s cousin Bunkie. Cookie and Anika put their differences aside to arrange a hostile takeover of Empire Entertainment.
Last season, Lucious left Empire Records in his son Jamal’s (Jussie Smollett) hands, and Cookie wasn’t thrilled.
Empire focus on a hip hop music and entertainment company, and the drama among the members of the founders’ family as they fight for control of the company.
Do you plan to watch season 2 of Empire?
We’ll also see more of Cookie’s family on Empire with Vivica A. Fox playing Cookie’s other sister. Throughout season one, we saw the three brothers – Jamal, Hakeem, and Andre – battle it out to impress their father, in a bid to take over Empire. This Season 2 debut is jam-packed with guest stars, as TVLine teases that Swiss Beatz, Ludacris, Kelly Rowland, Chris Rock, Al Sharpton, and Don Lemon will all pop up in Wednesday’s premiere before the night is over.
Oh, and in unrelated Cookie news, she also said, “Ooooo, Krispy Kreme!” upon seeing a box of donuts, so she is officially the best.
Then, Lucious says that he knows that she wanted to impress that big investor and apologises saying, “Sorry that didn’t work out for you babe”. Also, remember that Lucious is not going to be behind bars forever! As Hakeem and Jamal argue, Cookie finally returns home.
Cookie, understandably anxious, meets with Lucious for the first time and tells him that he has to take care of it for the family. As Bustle reported, it was feared that Gathers was out for revenge if he found out that Cookie sent him to jail.
And if you’re thinking how can season two measure up to season one, just wait for it. He released an album – that’s now sunk to No. 22 on the charts thanks to his hectic business schedule – and she’s encouraged him to come out of the closet and be the artist that’s true to himself.
In an interview with TV Line, Chaiken said that they contemplated on whether or not they should make the pilot episode for Season 2 less scandalous than Season 1.
Fortunately, director-producer Lee Daniels doesn’t have a stealth mode and Empire roars out to start its second season on Wednesday, September 23, with much of the same hummable audacity that marked its initial run.
