Encarnacion to play; Cub-Mets rosters for NLCS
X-rays taken after the game were negative and Encarnacion is listed as day-to-day with a ligament sprain in the finger.
The Blue Jays lineup without designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion is missing a big piece.
“Usually a day or two it calms down on him and he’s able to get through it. We’ll see, it’s an early game tomorrow”.
As it turns out, Encarnacion had an injury to the middle finger of his left hand.
In his two games against the Rangers, Price wasn’t at his best as he gave up a combined eight runs on 11 hits over 10 innings.
“We got an MRI this morning, just so the doctors could clear it”, Toronto manager John Gibbons said.
Canadian catcher Russell Martin was in the No. 7 spot with Dioner Navarro returning to the bench after catching right-hander Marco Estrada in the series opener. He was 0-for-3 in Game 1 of the ALCS before exiting. After Chris Colabello struck out, Troy Tulowitzki redeemed himself from Friday’s game (he struck out to end that sixth inning rally) with a double to right that chased home Bautista.
During the regular season, Encarnacion hit 39 home runs, drove in 111 and posted a. 929 OPS.
“That [finger] has been bothering him all year”, Gibbons said. Ventura gave up five runs in seven innings in one start against Toronto this season. Then the Jays’ athletic trainer could be seen talking to Encarnacion in the dugout afterward and Justin Smoak pinch hit for him next time up.
“Edwin is a big part of our team”, said Blue Jays centre-fielder Kevin Pillar.
