England Boss Reacts To Colombia Win
David Moyes says that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is England’s best option between the sticks for the remainder of the World Cup.
England had researched Colombia’s penalty takers beforehand and Pickford said: “We had a fair feeling, and Falcao was the only one who didn’t go his usual way”.
Speaking to ITV’s Gabriel Clarke, the Liverpool midfielder said: “I apologise to back home, to anybody who skipped a heartbeat!”
“This was special but I want us to go on”, Southgate, whose penalty miss saw England lose to Germany in the Euro 96 semi-finals at Wembley, said.
It was England’s first win in a knockout game since 2006 and earns them a quarter-final with Sweden, who were far from impressive in beating Switzerland 1-0 earlier on Tuesday. I look at that squad and I get really jealous and think I would love to be in that squad.
“We reset our mindset, mentality, work rate, we never stopped”.
Two years later, it was re-recorded with slightly different lyrics as “3 Lions 98” – and, of course, it resurfaces pretty much every time there’s a footy tournament in which England are involved.
“I can’t believe that England actually won a penalty shootout”.
“We always knew what we were capable of and performed wonderfully at this tournamen”, Pekerman said.
“It’s a nervous one”.
“I thought he was going to head it directly in, but when I took a little jump and it went into the ground and I couldn’t adjust my body so I was gutted”.
“He’s a fantastic goalkeeper”. We’ve underestimated them for years, they’re brilliant at what they do, know exactly how they play.
“When it went to penalties, we had a lot of people around us like, “hmmm”.
“To get knocked down at the end like we did with that goal in added time, it’s hard to come back from that but we were ready for that”.
