England equal record run of consecutive wins with victory over Australia
Under the Australian they have won 13 out of 13, and this will probably be remembered as the second finest year in the history of English rugby.
It’s to ensure he has an understanding of how we play, we have an understanding of what he wants and it’s to ensure the game flows in the proper way.”To be the best team in the world, you’ve got to be like Muhammad Ali.you’ve got to have that relentless desire and pursuit of excellence”.
Joseph featured in all of England’s 2016 victories, and says it has been a joy to play in Eddie Jones’ squad.
The former Japan coach added: “There’s clocks around (Twickenham) which say how many days until the World Cup final – 1,020 days”.
“We’ve got some other young lads we’re looking at bringing next year and we’ll continue doing that in ’17 to grow our group, so by the time we get to ’18 we’ve got a good selection to choose from”. That’s what we’re aiming at. “But we can’t get too carried away”.
It has been a joy to watch England spear-head the Northern Hemisphere revival following last years World Cup, with Ireland, Scotland and Italy all improving considerably along with them, and a year unbeaten would be a fitting reward for this team.
“We’ve got a long way to go before we achieve that”.
“It’s been an incredible year and we want to celebrate what we have achieved in 2016”.
But after 15 minutes, England’s dreams of completing the flawless 2016 looked to be going up in smoke as Australia tore Jones’ side to shreds.
Former Wallaby Glen Ella has fired a warning to his compatriots ahead of the end-of-season rugby union showdown with England at Twickenham in London today – Eddie Jones’ team are better than they were in June.
When England hosts the Wallabies Saturday afternoon at Twickenham to try and move closer to a world record stretch of wins, the much anticipated part of the match would be the direct contest between the two number 8s.
“They play a pressure, conservative style and in Australia they scored a lot of tries off errors”. We don’t have that yet.
Australia raced to a 10-0 lead and had England well and truly on the back foot before a clinical 20 minutes to start the second half saw England motor ahead courtesy of to tries from Marland Yarde and man-of-the-match Ben Youngs, who was superb at halfback.
He added: “I know we’ll be criticised for losing but you have to wear that sometimes”.
“Second Test again we were under the pump and we defended for X number of phases and ended up winning that game convincingly”.
Jones said: “To win the second half 24-5 is a pretty fair effort”.
England’s forwards were getting on top of the Wallaby pack and Youngs caught Australia napping with a quickly-taken tap penalty that saw him dummy opposing scrum-half Nick Phipps for an opportunist try.
The scrum had provided one of the battlegrounds for the coaches’ verbal exchanges, but it was largely a sideshow to a pulsating global that saw Nathan Hughes grow in stature on his full debut, proving a fine deputy for the injured Billy Vunipola. “We are very happy”, he said.
Australia are full of attacking talent and will be desperate to avenge their dismal series defeat against them. He’s done a couple of good little stints for us.
Cheika opted not to return eve-of-game fire, insisting the “fun and games are over” but did criticise the newspaper’s decision to publish a mocked-up clown image of Jones.
Saturday’s win came after the three-game series sweep of Jones’s home country in June.
Asked what extra satisfaction he took from the win, Jones said: “Zero, mate. It’s just another game of Test footy”.
“We’ve got cold beers”.
Australia finished their season on Saturday in the same way as previous year: head-in-hands after defeat at Twickenham.
“I’m very positive about the team as a whole. I know they spend a lot of time going through scenarios that might happen on the weekend and making sure they cover all those angles off, and you can see they’ve done that with the way they’re playing”.
