England’s elliot daly handed three-week ban
Daly, best known as a centre but playing on the wing when he was sent off, will miss England’s final worldwide of 2016, against Australia at Twickenham this coming Saturday, and English club Wasps’ European Champions Cup double-header against Irish side Connacht.
England scrumhalf Ben Youngs said his team had “dug out” the game.
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika shrugged off Jones’ comments following their defeat in Ireland while Australian forward Dean Mumm said they would pay little attention to the noises emanating from the England camp as they look to Saturday’s Test.
“We will submit an agenda and make sure that everything is above board”.
England are targeting a 13th successive Test victory – 11 have been secured under Jones – that will leave them one short of the national record sequence of 14, which can be equalled if Argentina and Australia are toppled over the next nine days.
“Elliot made a judgement error”.
Winger Elliot Daly was shown a red card for a unsafe tackle on Leonardo Senatore while he was in the air, which left the forward prone and failing the head injury assessment. They are the 14-man victors.
“No quibbles”, Jones said.
Again Farrell was on target and, despite their extra man, Argentina trailed 9-0 with 15 minutes of the first half remaining and were busy shooting themselves in the foot at every available opportunity.
A penalty try was awarded, Orlando was yellow-carded, and Farrell converted for 16-0.
Vunipola had been outstanding and it was his lightning-fast reflexes, combined with the relentless harrying of Argentina by the magnificent Chris Robshaw, that forced a penalty try in the 29th minute.
Then continuous Pumas pressure late in the first half that lasted 47 minutes on the clock – saw SEVEN in a row and an eventual score from Fecundo Isa after Dan Cole was sin-binned and England down to 13 men.
“We are obviously disappointed that Elliot was sent off but these things happen in games of rugby and you have to get on with it”, he said.
Mako Vunipola, Dylan Hartley and Dan Cole have formed a strong unit, but this was a reminder that the England eight still have a way to go before they truly stand out amongst worldwide packs. Argentina ran from their own 22 from the kick-off, Juan Martin Hernández, Matías Moroni, Santiago Cordero, Juan Pablo Estelles, Jeronimo de la Fuente and Tomas Cubelli combining fluently for Cordero to score.
Hernandez converted, and that proved to be the last points scored by the Pumas.
Farrell’s fourth penalty extended their lead to five points and in between two misses he landed his fifth. The yellow card brandished to Marler was debateable; the red to the 21-year-old Pieretto was inevitable, and revived memories of the wild punch by a Pumas predecessor, Freddy Mendez, when he was sent off in this fixture 26 years ago.
