England saved by super subs against Fiji in Rugby World Cup opener
England coach Stuart Lancaster admitted his relief after his team started their World Cup campaign with a win.
Good hands and some nice running lines led to the game-clinching try four minutes later as Brown scored his second of the game and Farrell’s conversion killed the match as a contest.
A try by Billy Vunipola in the last minute, which was awarded after a lengthy review by the TMO meant England secured a bonus point, which might prove essential in qualifying for the knockout stages.
“Fiji will cause every team problems … but we scored four tries and got a bonus point”.

During his brief time on the field, the England attack straightened, took a more direct route through the Fijians and produced a further 17 points in the final 12 minutes.
But he was terrorising England soon after…
…
England score their first penalty try against Fiji on Friday night in their Rugby World Cup opening victory at Twickenham. “The support we get is fantastic and I’m sure that in this special year for rugby our fans can be that difference”.
Vunipola came on and completed a last minute try – with Farrell convering – to make the score look more than impressive.
Among those invited were ambassadors from the United States, New Zealand and Japan, the host of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
“We know that the club and country will get behind England and this club will be packed to the rafters to cheer them on”.
If England are to get the first try, they’ll need a player to cross the whitewash and winger Jonny May is favourite to be just that man. Sportingbet will give you odds of 13/2 on the Gloucester man scoring the first try. I won’t put a percentage [on the improvement required] because it is about an 80 minutes performance.
Credit to Fiji, they put us under a lot of pressure.
I thought the subs really brought an impact off the bench and added positivity to the game and we went after them and managed to finish the job.
“They are avoidable, inexcusable and can not be continued if England want to win close games against better opposition”.
