Enner Valencia Issues Apology to West Ham’s Medical Staff
West Ham are set to hold crunch talks with striker Enner Valencia after he lashed out at the club’s medical staff over his latest injury setback, per the Daily Mirror.
The striker wanted a second opinion and has been resisting having an operation, which the club believe would help his recovery in the hope that he is able to return within four months.
After suffering an injury to his right leg in the Europa League match with Astra Giurgiu at the Boleyn Ground last month, Valencia claimed that the club had “not supported” him.
“I don’t understand why West Ham doctors are doing this to me”, Valencia told Ecuador radio station La Deportiva, as reported by the London Evening Standard.
Enner Valencia has issued a clarification after an interview in which he was quoted criticising West Ham’s treatment of his knee injury. “But they don’t let me speak to another doctor”. It’s my health we are talking about here.
In other injury news for West Ham, which visits Anfield on Saturday, Diafra Sakho (adductor strain) has a chance to play, while Mauro Zarate (hamstring) is unlikely to feature.
He added: “I think I will have to ask a doctor to see me behind their backs”.
“I have had a number of consultation meetings with specialists in London, accompanied by members of the club’s medical staff, and they have always kept me updated me on my injury”, he said in a statement.
Valencia signed for the Hammers on a five-year contract from Mexican side Pachuca last July following a World Cup campaign in which the forward scored three goals for his nation. “I have been thinking about going to an airport and getting out of London”.
