Entire 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT Lineup Refreshed to Celebrate Speed Freaks
There’s also a number of aerodynamic upgrades, new adaptive damping and rear-axle steering that allows the rear wheels to point in opposite direction to the fronts up to 62mph, and in the same direction as the fronts above that speed, to improve grip and stability. The base AMG GT and Roadster features 469 hp and 465 lb-ft, just above that, the AMG GT S features 515 hp and 494 lb-ft, while the AMG GT C and GT C Roadster features 550 hp and 502 lb-ft, and rounding out the group, the AMG GT R comes with 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Some earlier optional extras like the LED High Performance headlamps are now part of the standard host of equipment. We say we doubt anyone will find it shocking because the automaker already announced the GT C roadster a year ago, and if German auto companies are one thing, it’s consistent with their model lineups. While Mercedes announced a new petrol engine for the facelifted GLA during the Detroit Motor Show, this unit (for the GLA 220 specification) will not be available for the United Kingdom market. Mercedes says it results in more rear legroom, headroom, and shoulder room, and more front shoulder room for this four-passenger grand tourer. A chrome frame around the gear knob, dashboard covered with MB-Tex with red contrast stitching.
The package is available in any color, as long as it’s black. Buyers also will be able to opt for new exclusive Nappa leather and heated/ventilated AMG Performance seats.
Inside, there are similarly minor tweaks, including redesigned seat covers, instrument panel dials and trim pieces, notably some shiny chrome panels and switches.
Cosmetic stuff includes the usual facelift fodder of new bumpers and tweaked lights, a bit of a play with the aerodynamics and the option of “Canyon Beige” paint. This is in addition to the already standard features of forward collision alert with autonomous braking and attention assist to warn of drowsy driving.
It was only three years ago when Mercedes launched its GLA crossover at the Detroit Auto Show and now the German carmaker has returned with a new version of the vehicle.
Hands-free boot opening, by waggling a foot beneath the tailgate, is now available too. Pricing is not yet announced.
