Ep. 3: Fire and Ice Meet At Last
Welcome to this week’s edition of Dames of Thrones – where we highlight the most important things the badass women of Game of Thrones do each episode.
Any week, anyone can go, and anyone can lose or gain a lot of power. She told her that she would marry a king (Robert Baratheon), that she would have three bastard children all of whom would die, and finally that a younger, more lovely would cast her down and take everything she holds dear. Olenna however departs on her own terms and reveals to Jaime that it was her planned killing of Joffrey. But before she gave up the ghost, Lady Olenna, who has always been a tough personality, fiercely drove a knife into Jamie and dropped a bombshell on all of us but it definitely hit Jamie the hardest: She killed King Joffrey. There could be some hesitation on Jon’s part, but I’m operating under the belief that despite any initial skepticism or hesitation to do so, Tyrion and Ser Davos will help him understand that there is a bigger war to worry about than who sits on the Iron Throne.
Olenna Tyrell’s goes out not with a whimper but with a bang. In front of her, he then poisoned her drink and she took a mouthful. We do see a certain softness in her tone when they talk briefly as dragons fly in the background.
The long-awaited meeting between Daenerys Targaryen (Fire) and Jon Snow (Ice) is bristly, at best, as royal courtesies and expectations are ignored.
Euron had a great week, and a surprising roar of applause when he arrived in King’s Landing.
Euron brings his gift to Cersei: and it’s Ellaria and Tyenne Sand. She will name him Warden of the North if he bends his knee. It’s possible she could be talking about her steamy night with Grey Worm, but that’s not usually their dynamic. Grey Worm survived the siege on Casterly Rock, but only because the bulk of the Lannister forces were at Highgarden to take out the last of the Tyrells: Olenna. In the book, there was another prophecy, that she would be murdered by the Valonqar.
“But of course I don’t die on screen”. Add to that, Jamie Lannister led an army to crush House Tyrell and topple Highgarden.
We’re not sure if Jorah knows Daenerys is in Westeros, but he’ll probably figure it out and make his way to his Khaleesi and fight for her very soon. Jaime rattles off a couple of gruesome options that Cersei proposed, but ultimately replies to Olenna by simply pouring a vile of poison into her glass of wine.
In “The Queen’s Justice”, we finally see the Jon-Daenerys meeting that we’d anticipated for years. But, more importantly, Arya, who has Cersei on her hit list, never showed up during the show’s third episode… or did she? A brutal, quick death isn’t enough for Cersei at this point.
