‘Episode VIII’ Will Pick Up Where ‘Force Awakens’ Left Off
Speaking on Friday at the opening of Star Wars Celebration Europe, Mark Hamill addressed one of the oldest legends related to himself that he received every Star Wars product made in the early days.
“It can be annoying and intrusive”, he says. “You’ve got the charm thing down”, Boyega says.
But at the same time he understands the need for secrecy to preserve the experience for the fans.
Luke Skywalker didn’t have any dialogue in Episode VII – The Force Awakens, but Hamill confirmed that he will speak in the sequel: The day before his convention appearance, he said, he was in the studio re-recording dialogue in a looping session. “It really does. But it’s for your viewing pleasure that we do this”.
But as an actor it makes the work harder. For example, they built lots of exterior sets of ships inside on stages to get dynamic, more controlled, spaceship photography. “They let me have one scene and I keep it on my person”.
Han Solo (Harrison Ford) was an important figure in the Rebel Alliance, who played a very important role in bringing down the evil Empire. “I had two sisters who used to go up to my parent’s closet and tell me, ‘You’re getting a Beany and Cecil board game for your birthday.’ I was like, ‘Why did you tell me!'”
The script for the audition – a draft scene from the final screenplay – involved a conversation with Chewbacca, suggesting Han’s trusty wookiee first mate on the Millennium Falcon will also appear in the film.
He said: “You’re thinking “give us a detail about Episode VIII, not a spoiler but a new character or a new sequence” and I know you will love the irony of the fact that I’m contractually forbidden to do that”. “There’s dialogue in there that I can see on a T-shirt”, he said. “I thought, ‘Oh, what a great entrance!’ GAH!” It seems as though her new hairstyle is significant to how the upcoming movie will progress Rey’s story, since Disney can not even risk showing fans even a glimpse of her hair.
Of course, he then joked that Luke didn’t finish his training either, instead going off to save his friends. But Hamill knows his place in this new trilogy. “It’s really not a story about me anymore”, he said, “it’s the story of Rey, Finn, Poe, and everyone”.
After he momentarily forgot the name of Ridley’s character, an audience member shouted out: “What’s her last name?” “Thats a trick question”.
Director Rian Johnson will supposedly be filming for a little bit longer until the production finishes up on July 22.
