EPL: Dummett’s late strike helps Newcastle hold Man United to draw
Louis van Gaal blamed his Manchester United players for throwing away victory at Newcastle after Paul Dummett’s 90th minute equaliser punished the visitors following a succession of missed chances. Is the defence weak now?
“I’m very disappointed, we’re very disappointed”, he said.
“I hadn’t scored in a few games so I wanted to take it, I think it was a penalty, he pulled my shirt in front of the referee and he made the right decision and gave it”.
And Rooney knows that United will have to be at their best if they are to win on the weekend, with chances like the ones against the Magpies needed to be taken.
“Newcastle only wanted to attack”.
“He’s a young player who with the Euros coming, he wants to be in that England squad, so he has got a lot to fight for from now until the end of the season. We saw a fantastic game tonight”.
“Then there was the heavyweight wrestling match between Mitrovic and Smalling, you can see Mitrovic pushing his head down and then you have to decide who is heavyweight champion”. He added that normally it was different and his side were the victims of opposition spoiling tactics.
Relieved to have ended a run of four defeats, McClaren’s mood was further buoyed by the completion of Jonjo Shelvey’s £12m transfer from Swansea City shortly before kickoff. I think he can play for 10 years more.
And the goal, his fourth of the season, has buoyed the 21-year-old ahead of Saturday’s home game against West Ham United. I don’t think so at the minute.
“Asked what was going through his mind when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the penalty area, he said: “‘I’m going to hit this as hard as I can and see what happens’, really.
However, Smalling doesn’t believe last night’s result is going to have much of an effect on Sunday as Manchester United have a good recent record against the Merseyside club in recent times. It’s good for my confidence and I hope I’ll keep scoring.
Luckily for Mitrovic and the fans, this one happened very close to the referee and was especially blatant.
“We showed we can come back”.
