Equinix takes blame for BT outage that hit 10% of broadband customers
BT broadband services in many parts of the United Kingdom have been affected by a technical fault.
A BT spokeswoman said the power issue affected around 10 per cent of internet usage – meaning one-in-ten attempts to connect to the website they want to go to may fail.
“Services are now being restored and engineers are working to fix the problems for the remaining customers that are affected”.
It notes ongoing BT problems pretty much all over the United Kingdom, including in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bristol, Leicester and Leeds.
In a statement to Daily Star Oline BT said: “We’re sorry that some BT and Plusnet customers are experiencing problems accessing some internet services this morning”.
Customers expressed their anger on Twitter, with CharlieMFC tweeting BT Care: “No backup power at Harbour Exchange for resiliency like any normal company should have?” It later said the issue had now been fixed.
Some BT Broadband customers have reported problems accessing websites this morning.
According to the DownDetector site, users first started reporting difficulties using BT’s services around 8am, with a peak in instance reports occurring around 9am this morning with more than 5,000 incidents logged. If what BT say is true [about the cause of the failure] then we don’t need attackers: “we just need the fuse to blow”.
Many voiced their displeasure on social networks – and you can read some of their responses to BT below.
The problems were so severe one monitoring site said the company was receiving 4,000 complaints a minute about the service being down.
