Er Ko seizes lead after three rounds of US Women’s Open
This was an 8-under affair during the first two days. She followed that up with a victory in this year’s first major, the ANA Inspiration. She doesn’t do much more than tap her club if she missed hit a shot and not much more than a fist bump if she made a hard one.
“I expect her to play well, you know”. “And obviously playing in the afternoon is just going to get hotter and hotter out there”, said Tan, who carded a 4-under-68 in the second round. “What else do you need?”
Goydos made eagle at the par-4 16th hole and followed with a birdie at No. 17 to finish at 11-under 133 with Riegger, who shot 67. But the ball kept rolling and finally fell.
“Position wise, I didn’t shoot myself out of it. My goal would be to finish in the top 10 and I’m right there, only a few strokes out”. No smile, just disbelief.
What will really happen for party-girl Ko on Sunday in San Martin, is that she will return to a nearby rented home with her family and eat whatever mom, Tina, has prepared.
“I’ll take it, I’ll take any shot advantage I can”, she said. “So it was a lucky one”. She leads the circuit in putting, scoring and smiling.
She held a share of the lead before a bogey at the 17th, but said she could not be disappointed with her one-over effort.
Jack Nicklaus, who won 18 professional majors, once said: “I’d rather be two strokes ahead going into the last day than two strokes behind”.
“My throat was a little weird the next day”, she said.
Park faltered on No. 9 with a double and bogeyed Nos. And I ended up coming home at 5 a.m. I went with my sister and her friend and Su Oh, actually. Sometimes they like to set it up easier on Sunday and people get some low scores. “There’s so many good players, but she’s something else”.
On Sunday, the teen-ager from New Zealand will have a chance to add a U.S. Women’s Open title to her already impressive resume. It can be tough.
The joke drew laughs like her game attracts raves, although Ko would have to start doing stand-up for her humor to wow at the same level as her golf.
Lydia Ko has got all the shots, on and off the course, from curling in putts to cutting up with reporters, delivered with an ease that belies her age.
“She’s the master of it; it’s unreal”.
“Winning the Evian Championship gave me a lot of confidence to say, ‘Hey, I can play well at these majors'”.
“I feel like if I’m not nervous it’s because – I think nerves are good because it means you’re excited”. You’re ready. It means a lot to you. “I always felt like something was missing”.
“(But) because it is a little softer, you can be a little bit more aggressive. So it kind of took me by surprise.
Lydia Ko has a slice of the lead late in her third round at the USA women’s golf Open in California. But anybody can have a bad day. I couldn’t control it at all. Her approach shot spun back about 9 feet from the hole.
When asked what she does the night before the final round of a major, she cracked a joke.
“I go partying. Partying all night and come straight to the course”, she said to the roars of laughter from the reporters looking on.
