Eric Cantona backs Bath City community buyout scheme for cash-strapped non
Football legend Eric Cantona has backed a community buyout scheme by fans of cash-strapped Bath City.
Eric Cantona buys shares in Bath City in a scheme aimed at saving the National League South side.
After Bath fell into financial trouble, the club’s famous fan, film director Ken Loach, who worked with Cantona on the film Looking for Eric set up a crowd-funding plea to revive the club’s fortunes.
“It’s a big challenge to raise the money but don’t be scared”, said Cantona, who once visited Twerton Park in 2009. “You must support them too, it’s a great club”.
He describes them as “a great club” and that the supporters’ plans to save it is “great news”.
Supporters are hoping to raise between £750,000 to £1.25million for a takeover to become viable and the four-time Premier League victor has given then a boost with his publicity alone.
Joining Cantona in a high-profile backing of the BBCB is fellow actor Ricky Tomlinson, he of Royle Family and Mike Bassett fame.
