Eric Cantona makes incredibly sound promise for one refugee family
Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona pledges to house a refugee family for “at least” two years.
Despite all his flaws and wrongdoings in the past, he is now well-motivated and encouraged to help refugees as his maternal grandparents were Republican refugees who fled the Franco regime in Spain, crossing the Pyrenees mountain range on foot to reach France. As such, Cantona feels a very close understanding of the tragic circumstances that so many have found themselves in at present and he has chose to set an example. “That being our story, it certainly played a role”, he said.
So naturally, Cantona has taken action: he is going to house a family of refugees himself.
Since quitting football in his prime at the end of the 1996-97 campaign, Cantona has forged a new career as an actor.
The former footballer said he was now organising the process with authorities in Marseille, southern France. “I can not stand what it does to us”.
Earlier this month, Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila told national broadcaster YLE that starting in 2016 he would offer his home in Kempele, in northern Finland, to house asylum seekers.
Sir Bob made the offer after voicing his dismay at the migrant and refugee crisis in Europe while speaking to Dave Fanning on RTE Radio 1.
