Erin Andrews tearfully explains emotional effects of nude video
On Monday, Andrews testified in the million lawsuit against Barrett and the franchise owner of the hotel at which the crime took place.
The stalker was able to get the videos after altering hotel room door peepholes, removing them and placing his cell phone camera against the empty hole. She said she receives comments about the video “every single day” on her Instagram account, with people joking that she should pay Marriott and Barrett for the publicity.
Andrews said she now suffers from depression and sleeplessness on occasion, while her mother described “a loss of security, safety and a violation of her most personal aspect of life”. Both Radisson and Ashtel were named as defendants in Andrews’ civil lawsuit, though there is no indication that Barrett recorded any of his peephole videos at the Milwaukee hotel. “One of the worst thoughts I have is when I walk around a stadium … there’s always that thought, as I walk right by the stands, and I think, ‘My God, everyone in this stadium has seen that video'”.
She noted that she refused to take medication that was offered to her by one of the therapists because she wanted to remain “sharp” and focused on her own without the help of medication.
At least 16.8 million people have viewed at least some of the footage of Erin Andrew and that 1.5 people still view the video every minute.
“Because there wasn’t an arrest – because we didn’t know where this happened – my bosses at ESPN told me: ‘Before you go back on air for college football, we need you to give a sit-down interview, ‘” she said.
‘I will never get over this…
The affidavit said Barrett had made a reservation in the hotel for a night when Andrews was staying there and that the peephole in the room that she occupied had been similarly modified.
Before settling in, she said she thoroughly checks the bed, the clock, the air conditioning grate and especially the bathroom for hidden cameras and looks for tell-tale red lights of possible hidden recorders.
According to Deadspin, Andrews testified that after the video came out, she was pressured by ESPN to do an interview and talk about her stalker to prove that it wasn’t a publicity stunt.
Andrews said she has thrown herself into her career just to feel normal but remains anxious and depressed. “And she said, ‘I’ve got you, you’re safe here”. But like my dad had said the other day, I didn’t want it to be a two-second thing where it’s like, ‘Was this a scandal, or was it not?’ No, this is my life, and I feel bad about myself, and we want to figure out how this happened.
“I’m so angry”, she added.
In it, he said his intent was not to embarrass or humiliate the sportscaster, and chose Andrews because she was trending on Yahoo, which is how he figured out she was a star.
Andrews says what hurts the most about the whole situation is what it’s done to her reputation.
