Erykah Badu Covers Kanye West’s “Real Friend”
She dubbed her rendition the “TRILL FRIENDS: BADU WHODINI rough mix”, and borrowed some phrases from Whodini’s “Friends”, which came out in 1984. The promotional musical giveaways first sprang up in the lead up to the rapper’s 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and returned with announcements by Kim Kardashian on January 8th.
Erykah Badu is blessing fans with a trill cover of Kanye West’s “Real Friends”. But Erykah Badu’s sultry vocals put a whole new twist on the track as she makes it into her own creation.
“JUST ride out to this”, she wrote on SoundCloud.
“Trill Friends” is a downtempo track sampling lyrics from Whodini’s “Friends” and beats from Kanye’s “Real Friends”, that she made while she was supposed to be “recording something else”. Badu also remixed Drake’s “Hotline Bling” in 2015 and her timeless sound proves that she can pretty much turn anything so touches to gold. Get into Badu’s latest remix below.
