ESPN puts Clemson on upset alert
The truth is, yes, Clemson can still make the College Football Playoff.
No. 19 LSU 38, ARKANSAS 10 (at Fayetteville, Ark.) – Derrius Guice rushed for a career-high 252 yards and Leonard Fournette added three touchdowns and the Tigers (6-3, 4-2 SEC) improved to 4-1 under interim coach Ed Orgeron with a win over the Razorbacks (6-2, 2-4). The Panthers didn’t exactly play old-school football – Peterman hung in the shotgun and the Panthers relied on some creative play-calling – but the Tigers still struggled to contain running back James Conner, who had 96 rushing yards in the first half and 189 total yards for the game. We can’t sit around and cry about this one. They blocked. They played a very good football game.
“I couldn’t be happier for our kids”.
“We had been making those kinds of plays this year”, Swinney said of failed runs. “I love those guys”. A game-tying touchdown seemed imminent, but redshirt senior cornerback Ryan Lewis had other plans. While Clemson’s bridge to the Playoff is built on an uneasy foundation of close wins, the Cardinals have been building on the sturdy bedrock of violent blowouts. But his third interception gave Pitt the chance to crawl back from a 42-34 deficit. Maybe. The Tigers have needed narrow escapes on a handful of occasions to get to 9-0, and Pitt has the playmakers to give them headaches if they aren’t sharp.
Pitt’s coaches chose to let Peterman sling the ball down the field, and sling it he did.
Three of Hurts’ touchdown passes went to ArDarius Stewart, as both parts of the duo had career days.
Instead of running the football, chewing up some clock and at least getting a field goal, which Scott said Monday would’ve been the right decision in hindsight, Saleem Brightwell intercepted Watson at the goal line.
Me neither. But I can say, “Washington Loses to USC”. The fourth down stop was especially impressive, as Clemson brought in its jumbo unit – which included two 300-pound defensive tackles – thinking that it could just run over the Panther defense to get the yardage necessary to win the game.
“Based on my phone blowing up, it was bigger than the Penn State win”, Narduzzi said.
When the Panthers drove 75 yards in five plays for a touchdown on their first possession – the first touchdown Clemson had allowed in the first quarter this season – it was an indicator of what was to come. While the two teams traded scores and remained close for most of the game, the Panthers trailed for much of it by just a single point because of Blewitt’s missed PAT in the middle of the second quarter.
That same, put-it-away attitude by Swinney cost the Tigers this time when Gallman was stopped on third- and fourth-and-one at the Pittsburgh 35 with a minute left.
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Freshman kicker Keith Duncan connected on a 33-yard field goal as time expired to lift Iowa to a stunning upset of No. 3 MI.
The Tigers could have lost at home to North Carolina State a few weeks ago, but Wolfpack kicker Kyle Bambard missed a 33-yard field goal at the end of regulation.
Mississippi State (4-6, 2-4) got on the board on its opening drive of the second half after kicker Westin Graves made a 47-yard field goal to cut it to 30-3.
