Esteban Cambiasso Rejects New Leicester City Contract
“I would like to announce that I have decided not to renew my contract with Leicester City”, he said in a statement on his Facebook page.
The hiring of former Chelsea and Greece manager Claudio Ranieri was seen by many as a subpar by many.
Leicester have added Shinji Okazaki to their attacking ranks this summer, with David Nugent, Jamie Vardy, Andrej Kramaric and Leonardo Ulloa already at the club.
The Argentine received praise last season for his contribution in the English Premier League at the heart of the Foxes midfield.
West Ham have been backed into favourites to sign out of contract midfielder Esteban Cambiasso after he rejected a stay at Leicester.
City’s survival last season was made even more impressive as they won eight of their last 10 league games to move off the bottom of the table and eventually finish 14th in the final standings, their highest league finish since 2001.
If Ranieri can inspire his side to a positive start in those opening matches then it may well build confidence amongst the club and supporters alike and give the Italian time to really shape his squad and enjoy success at the King Power Stadium.
These changes need to be addressed.
Cambiasso’s decision will come as a blow to Ranieri, who said on Monday – at his first press conference since replacing the axed Nigel Pearson – that keeping the former Argentina global was a priority. While the clubs supporters will be entering this season with cautious optimism, the clubs early season results will reveal what we can expect from the Foxes this year.
