Eva Carneiro: Chelsea doctor faces axe after disagreement with Jose Mourinho
After the incident, Carneiro according to reports will not be working during Chelsea’s games as she has been barred from attending games or entering the team hotel.
Mirror Sport understands the Gibraltar-born medic, 41, is not expected to be on the bench for Sunday’s game at Manchester City.
The newspaper say Carneiro, who has been with the club for five years, will still remain in the position of first-team doctor but will only carry out work on players at the training ground as oppose to during and after games.
Eva Carneiro’s place on the Chelsea bench is under threat after the club doctor’s role was significantly changed as part of a backroom shake-up by manager Jose Mourinho.
As per the regulations, Hazard was forced to come to the sideline before returning to action, leaving Chelsea temporarily down to nine men following the dismissal of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Carneiro and Mourinho had the now famous row during Chelsea Saturday, August 8 2-2 home draw with Swansea.
“I was unhappy with my medical staff. They were impulsive and naive”, he claimed.
“You have to know you have one player less and when you go to the pitch to assist a player you must be sure the player has a serious problem”.
The criticism saw widespread condemnation of the Chelsea boss, and Carneiro sent a message of thanks to all those who had sent her messages of support (via Telegraph). I was sure that Eden didn’t have a serious problem. “Really very much appreciated”. “He had a knock and was very exhausted”, Mourinho said, as quoted by the Telegraph. In 2005, he managed to get rid of Neil Frazer after the two had a dispute about Arjen Robben’s fitness.
“My medical department left me with eight fit outfield players in a counter-attack after a set piece and we were anxious we didn’t have enough players left”.
Carneiro was promoted to her role with the Chelsea first team by Andre Villas-Boas in 2011 and has been an ever-present through the reigns of Rafa Benitez and Mourinho.
