Evander Kane Injury: Updates on Sabres Star’s Knee and Return
He stole the puck from Tyler Ennis who mishandled the puck at the New Jersey Devils ‘ blue line and he took off on a breakaway, ultimately beating the Sabres’ Linus Ullmark with a backhander.
According to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com), “Kane collapsed after having his knee pinned to the boards in the right corner of the Devils’ zone on a check from David Schlemko”.
Any major injury would be an incredibly unlucky setback for Kane, who missed most of last season after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery in February.
There was no update on Kane’s status immediately following the game, per the Sabres’ Twitter feed.
Kane now has three points in eight games this season.
Selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft by Atlanta, he made his National Hockey League debut in 2009-10 with the Thrashers, notching 14 goals and 12 assists in 66 games.
Devils goaltender Cory Schneider, who will start his fifth consecutive game, is looking forward to facing Eichel.
With the Sabres trailing 3-2 in the third and on the power play, Buffalo failed to convert with an extra attacker.
Adam Larsson played in his 200th National Hockey League game.
O’Reilly scored on a backhand shot 2:32 into the second period to put Buffalo back up 2-1.
Cammalleri’s goal tied it 2-2 8:57 into the second, and then Schlemko put New Jersey ahead with 49 seconds left in the period. The goal was disallowed on the ice and it was not reviewable.
NOTES: Coming off a 7-2 loss to Montreal on Friday, Bylsma shuffled his lineup, benching LW Marcus Foligno (lower-body injury) and D Mike Weber in favor of C David Legwand and D Carlo Colaiacovo. Both had been healthy scratches the night before…. One of Bylsma’s assistant coaches with the Sabres is former Devils assistant coach Dave Barr.
