Even Lionel Messi Would Struggle Replacing Steven Gerrard At Liverpool Claims
It’s likely to be a huge season in the career of Jordan Henderson, but he received a lot of praise for the manner in which he captained the side in the absence of Gerrard last term – even managing to pop up with important goals, just as his predecessor did before him. “I try to do the best I can, whether that is on the football pitch or off the pitch, trying to help everyone and trying to lead by example”.
Milner is absolutely spot on when he says that Liverpool FC will have to collectively replace the output that Steven Gerrard had and can be only achieved as team.
“With quality players like Jordan (Henderson) around you, and Lucas (Leiva) and people like that, it’s an enjoyable experience”.
Gerrard’s character and determination underlines his time with the club, which ended with a move to Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.
Liverpool have been active in the window following his exit and former City player, Milner believes that it is impossible to replace Gerrard.
Milner also made the assertion that he is a “different player” to Gerrard before suggesting the world’s best would run into difficulties when making up for the English midfielder’s absence.
“Even Messi would struggle to replace Stevie for what he’s done for Liverpool over the years”.
‘What he’s done on and off the field, as a player and as a captain, as a person, he’s been unbelievable. The more we train and play together we’ll keep moving forward and progressing as a team. Instead, he simply underlined Gerrard’s importance and how Liverpool fans shouldn’t expect an instant fix.
“I think improving on a year ago, that’s the first thing”, he said.
“I told him to do it his way and have his own ideas and I think he’ll have an outstanding year and really blossom with the captaincy”.
“It’s been great to get some games under my belt”.
