Everton out; Liverpool, Arsenal through in League Cup
Chelsea edged Leicester City, Arsenal and Liverpool advanced easily, while Everton and Bournemouth bowed out of the League Cup to Championship opposition on Tuesday night.
Liverpool comfortably accounted for Derby County 3-0 at the iPro Stadium with goals from defender Ragnar Klavan, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi.
Chelsea and Liverpool both rested key players but still fielded strong line-ups in a bid to stay alive in one of three competitions they are playing this season.
Leicester has much bigger priorities this season. Aside from attempting to retain their Premier League title, Claudio Ranieri’s team are in the Champions League for the first time and likely will not be too concerned about exiting a competition of the least importance.

Everton’s powerful start to their season could not be transferred to the cup as they were beaten at home 0-2 by recently relegated Norwich City. Ronald Koeman’s team has been the surprise of the Premier League so far, now in second place after winning its last four games.
A series of Football League teams also faced off, with Ex-Bournemouth midlfielder Matt Ritchie and Youan Gouffran each scoring to send Newcastle through over Wolverhampton Wanderers, A single late goal Leeds United’s Chris Wood saw them through over lowly Blackburn Rovers, with Reading holding off Brighton 2-1.
Captain Vincent Kompany played for the first time since a thigh injury suffered in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in early May, but he went off in the dying seconds as second-half goals by Gael Clichy and Aleix Garcia proved enough. Ronald Koeman’s side joins Leicester as the Premier League teams to get eliminated from the third round of the competition.
Everton was dumped out 0-2 at home by Norwich City, for whom Steve Naismith and Josh Murphy scored, while Bournemouth suffered a 2-3 home loss to Preston North End, with Simon Makienok bagging a hat-trick, including an extra-time victor.
Fresh off a heavy defeat at Manchester City, Bournemouth played an entire second-string team.
