While T Raja was allowed to enter Kasganj despite a ban, a Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) delegation led by state party president Raj Babbar was denied permission on Wednesday to enter the district. The clashes started after an argument between two groups when the “Tiranga Yatra” was passing through a Muslim-dominated neighbourhood.
R.P. Singh, the district magistrate of Kasganj, identified the arrested suspect as Mohammad Salim.
The UP Police said drone cameras had been deployed for aerial surveillance and described the situation as improving.
The Yogi Adityanath government, which stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh riding a saffron wave almost a year ago, was recently advised by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu to tone up law and order in the state. Rallies were attempted in Aligarh, Agra and Firozabad, districts close to Kasganj, as well as Bareilly and Kanpur. A police source said that “there were over 50 youths and one of them had the Indian flag”.
